I need to get out of the 90’s

So I’m reading The Onion AV Club this weekend and a review for a new Elbows album and an album by some band called The Gossip gets me fired up on music for the first time in a while.

Inspired, and with about $32 left on an iTunes gift certificate my pals at Innersync gave me, I go music shopping.

The Gossip loses me early–the leader singer’s voice reminds me of some pop singer woman I don’t like, though I can’t name who it is. Elbow sounds good.

I start reading the Random Rules feature and see that David Cross, of Mr. Show “fame” seems to have pretty good taste in music.

Thanks to David Cross I end up purchasing DJ Shadow’s Endtroducing (1996) and the Guided by Voices Bee Thousand album from 1994. Sigh. Can I ever get beyond the 90’s?

(Side note: It turns out DJ Shadow is the guy behind the U.N.K.L.E. album. Note to self: always read album liner notes.)

At this point I plan to use my remaining $12.26 to purchase the new Elbow album, or maybe the one from 2004, and an episode of Lost. Either way, I’ll at least buy a couple things from this decade.

Then again, I’ve been meaning to pick up Husker Du’s Zen Arcade for, like, 15 years, and maybe this is a good time…
